Dr. Stan Baird Rose Garden
About the Garden
A majority of the roses from the Humboldt Botanical Garden Rose Collection are located in the Dr. Stan J. Baird’s Rose Garden adjacent to the Dedekam Ornamental Terrace Garden. In February 2010 the garden was laid out and planted with roses selected by Stan Baird, PhD., and the Humboldt Rose Society. The garden was dug up and replanted in 2012 with the plants you see today.
There is a selection of hybrid tea, climbers, grandiflora and shrub roses and all selected for their ability to thrive through the cool damp summers at HBG. The roses are arranged to mirror the color bands of the Dedekam Ornamental terrace beginning with red, yellow, white, blue, purple and pink.
The Humboldt Rose Society, UC Extension Master Gardeners and HBG volunteers hold a public rose pruning demonstration and workshop in early February giving HBG members and the public the opportunity to learn the appropriate way to prune roses by practicing proper technique and tools with the HBG roses.
