Peter Santino’s “All Happy Now” Earth Sculpture

Although first and foremost a work of art, the sculpture is interactive and may be utilized as a walking labyrinth. You are invited to take your shoes off and enjoy a tactile and meditative experience following All Happy Now’s spiral labyrinth-ziggurat up to its center.

About the Garden

Peter Santino’s “All Happy Now” Earth Sculpture is a merger of two ancient landscape architectural features, the ziggurat and the labyrinth, along with a famous mathematical equation called The Spiral of Fermat. Utilizing 3D computer software, Fermat’s Spiral was input, drafted and then extruded to create a mound that rises to 6 feet at its center.

The construction of the 100′ diameter earth and grass ziggurat was begun in the Fall of 2004 and completed in the Spring of 2008, with most work done by hand.  A major upgrade was done in early 2017, replacing the original redwood bender boards with Corten steel strips and reseeding the grass.

There are two unique, non-intersecting quarter-mile, slowly rising, ramp-like pathways which take the walker up to the center and then back down and out the opposite side of the sculpture entered.

Although first and foremost a work of art, the sculpture is interactive and may be utilized as a walking labyrinth.  You are invited to take your shoes off and enjoy a tactile and meditative experience following All Happy Now’s spiral labyrinth-ziggurat up to its center.

I am a great admirer of ancient mounds and ziggurats and this design has allowed me to make a beautiful work of art that can either be appreciated from afar or near while actually walking on it. Rather than just a sculptural object only to be observed, “All Happy Now” may be walked on in the manner of the meditation labyrinths found throughout the world. Its slowly rising ramps and balanced symmetry of the yin yang design aid in the goal of it being a machine for creating personal happiness.
