The dream of the Garden started with the efforts of a few enthusiastic volunteers who believed it was time for this region to have a botanical garden. With their dedicated work HBGF is closer to this goal.
Volunteers created the HBGF, a non-profit organization, initiating horticultural education programs and symposiums for the public, collecting names to expand the organization and start a newsletter, and staffed displays to create interest in the idea of having a botanical garden in Humboldt County. Volunteers also established major yearly fundraisers such as the annual Plant Sale and Garden Tour & Tea, the latter highlights local private gardens (whose owners open their property so hundreds of people can trek through in awe).
Volunteers also sold a number of Garden Benches creating funds to pay for a Garden Master Plan.
Thousands of volunteer hours later, Garden construction is well underway at the beautiful 44.5-acre site adjacent to the College of the Redwoods overlooking Humboldt Bay and the Pacific Ocean.
HBGF invites you to join in the fun and help it reach its goal of creating a world class botanical Garden. Everyone has something to offer and in return you will receive the satisfaction of being a part of something beautiful, beneficial for the environment and community-economically and aesthetically as well as the thanks and appreciation that comes from meeting remarkable people who are working together to "realize the dre
am" of a world class botanical Garden in Northwestern California.
